HISTORY

San Dionisio Credit Cooperative (SDCC)—a well-established institution with over forty years of exemplary service—recognized the need to broaden its socio-economic outreach. Serving more than 8,000 members at the time, the Cooperative sought to identify key areas of development through a Social Audit Survey. The survey revealed two predominant needs within the community: access to affordable education and funeral services.

Among these, education emerged as an urgent concern for families that provide non-expensive, but quality education. In response, the SDCC resolved to address this need by founding a modest educational institution with a clear vision for growth. SDCC saw this as another challenge to serve this currently felt need. The seed idea was for the project to start small, initially plan to establish a pre-school consisting of a nursery and a kindergarten. But a plan for the growth of the school was written into the project. The SDCC Board of Directors instructed its Committee on Business Development to pursue the organizational process. This involved ensuring compliance with Department of Education standards and acquiring the necessary facilities, equipment, and instructional materials. After extensive planning and preparation, the school was formally established
On August 21,2002, the SDCC Board adopted for the school the title “THE LEARNING CHILD” a San Dionisio Credit Cooperative Pre-school. On this occasion, a School Board was created to oversee the management of school, see its philosophy, policies, rules, and regulations for the smooth performance of the teaching-learning function. Enrollment was prioritized for children in the Cooperative’s service area, with 70% of slots reserved for the families of SDCC members.

On October 16, 2002, the SDCC Board of Directors changed the name of the school to” ESCUELA DE SAN DIONISIO (EDSD)”. The name honors “Tata Dune “the Patron Saint of the Barrio in Paranaque City where the SDCC was founded and where its new and imposing office stands. Portions of the SDCC building initially housed the school. SDCC is presently constructing a school building that will accommodate increasing enrollment and future expansion.
Escuela De San Dionisio continues to serve a predominantly cooperative-member population, providing developmentally appropriate, values-based education.
Escuela De San Dionisio recognizes the importance of a secure and challenging foundation for the beginning of the educational process. We provide developmentally appropriate programs as we assist the unfolding of each child’s potential and develop a love of learning. Our educational program is directed towards the growth of the whole person which includes the emotional, physical, social, intellectual, and the spiritual well-being of each student, thus preparing the child for responsible adulthood. EDSD stands as a testament to the enduring impact of cooperativism in empowering communities through quality education. We achieve this through an environment that stresses the uniqueness of everyone, respect for themselves and others, and a responsible citizen who strives for excellence through personal discipline and teamwork.

In the beginning of School Year 2004, EDSD added elementary levels from Grades 1-4 and housed them in the same building at the SDCC. Eventually, in SY 2005, EDSD transferred to its new home at 0530 Quirino Avenue, Barangay San Dionisio which is very near to its mother company-SDCC. It is a 7-storey building that housed additional grade levels 5 and 6, but the pre-school levels stayed at SDCC building during that time. Subsequently, in SY 2006, the high school department was opened to cater to the first-year level. Then in SY 2009, the complete program for secondary level was fully implemented, i.e. including the second year to fourth year high school in the same EDSD building.

Pandemic struck but EDSD continued to provide quality education. EDSD transferred the pre-school to its new building to complete the program from pre-school to junior high school in SY 2020. Despite its situation caused by pandemic, the new normal education system was adopted to continue providing the EDSD Learners quality education.

Today, EDSD continuously updates the facilities of the school to deliver the needed excellent quality education to learners by implementing the flexible and blended learning modality. It is a teaching and learning modality where a combination of face-to-face and online modality is implemented. This is to address the mandate of the Department of Education to adopt a flexible and continuous delivery of learning.
